The Accessible Archivist Coalition: Coming VERY Soon
We're a group of grassroots volunteers who are preserving as many digital documents and pieces of public information as we can, and soon, we will be hosting them in a free database.
I am so excited to share my latest project with you: The Accessible Archivist Coalition! https://theaac.org/
The content will come in all formats, ranging from public access PDF articles about the current (and past) political administrations to news clips, photos, audio files, and everything in between.
At the moment, this is a complete labor of love. My cofounder Matthew and I felt the need to preserve public information for the good of all, and decided the best way to do it was to make it accessible to everyone. (There is no copyrighted material publicly accessible for legal reasons, of course).
In the last few months, I've documented every piece of information about Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath for my personal research, and from there, documented on TikTok as this information was quietly pulled from government websites like those of the Department of Defense and White House.
The purposeful removal of history is beyond insidious, and as a survivor of Hurricane Katrina, I know personally the impact of such a great cultural loss of information.
Public information should be accessible to all, and we have made that our goal from the beginning.
We are in the process of becoming a nonprofit organization so we can take care of our volunteers and community, and hopefully make this a full time project.
If you're interested, you can sign up for updates on our site now, and if you'd like to donate, all funds donated to theaac.org will go directly toward public archiving efforts.
Thank you for your support, and I hope to have this available to you soon!
